MIDI Controller or Keyboard
Use a MIDI controller or keyboard as the direct performance input.
USB Only
If your MIDI controller/keyboard is USB-only, you will need an intermediate computer or device that will act as a USB host.
With this setup, it’s simple enough to enable a MIDI-passthrough or give yourself greater control over how the controller/keyboard interacts with MAINFRAME.
5pin
If your device has a 5pin MIDI port that outputs notes, CC etc. (not just MIDI clock like many devices) then you can connect directly to MAINFRAME.
Examples
This pattern is highly recommended, as it really unlocks the expressive potential of the product. Basically all of our demos use MIDI controllers in this way. A few examples:
Using a MIDI controller to live adjust both sound and light.
Expressing a digital piano with organic structure on a tiled 4x3 LED grid.
Using LFOs & Envelope Followers to make lights move.
Drum beat & live delay parameters with Envelope Followers.
