Split LEDs
Using splitters, LED strings can be duplicated. They will display the same animations, but depending on the application, they are a great way to increase the overall light output and coverage.
At its most basic, a one-to-two splitter will split both the power and signal from a single MAINFRAME-B to two LED strips, grids, etc:
We can (nearly) infinitely split as needed for the project:
The number of splitters used, and whether or not the lights will still function are dependent on:
- The number of total LEDs
- Overall brightness
- Cable length
Where the higher these numbers, the greater chance the lights will start to get glitchy.
For example, if the cables are > 5 meters and you are running many LED strips at full brightness, the LED strips might not receive enough power and will start to malfunction. There are ways around this, as we have used for our larger installations. More details here: Scaling your installations.
However, if you are running short cables (less than two meters from MAINFRAME-B to LEDs) and are powering LED grids (which naturally you run dimmer) then you can split to a surprising number of grids. This is demonstrated in our Grid wall project.
