Piano Backglow

Piano Backglow

A minimal piano setup with an LED strip facing the wall, turning performance into a soft, reactive glow. The idea is to keep the light indirect so the wall becomes the diffuser and the room feels alive without glare.

This is one of the simplest ways to make a digital piano feel like a visual instrument. The LEDs track the MIDI performance in real time, so the glow expands, shifts, and fades with the music.

Build notes

  • Mount a single LED strip along the back or underside of the piano.
  • Aim the strip toward the wall for a clean glow instead of direct glare.
  • Use a diffuser if you want the light to feel softer and more uniform.

Signal and power

  • One MAINFRAME drives the strip.
  • MIDI comes from the piano (USB or 5‑pin via B+).

Notes

A low‑effort, high‑impact setup that works well in small rooms and studios.
